How to Conduct a Book Signing on Twitter
Next week, on 1st March, Yellow Jersey Press will publish its first ever direct to digital project. How Cav Won the Green Jersey: Short Dispatches from the 2011 Tour de France by Ned Boulting, a digital short, is an honest and idiosyncratic look at the unforgettable 2011 Tour de France.
Publicising a digital project is very different to publicising a physical book and one of the challenges encountered was, ‘he won’t be able to sign any copies.’ Having seen Ned’s scrawl, that’s not such a loss, but the man has fans and we’d like to keep them happy!
Serious brainstorming in the Yellow Jersey editorial office led to the genius idea of having Ned offer twitter dedications that could be included in the back of the book instead of signed copies. Nothing confusing about that. Very easy to manage. Ned will love it. Yes people, this is my job.
Luckily Ned was game, and today at 2.30pm he announced on twitter that the first 25 people to ask him for a dedication would have it included in the ebook when it’s released next week with the first 5 people winning a free copy. So far so good. People loved it, we had tweets coming from all sides, the experiment so far was a success.
And now to the important part! The 25 lucky people below should get in touch to let us know what their dedication should be. Is can be anything – within reason – but it must be within 140 characters.
