Here at Vintage Publishing we all love to read, obviously, and we like to share our love for reading over cake, tea, the odd glass of fizz in the office. Somehow chatting about what you’re reading is always especially nice when you’ve got a glass in your hand, or the sun is shining outside and everything is rose tinted and lovely. Not long ago while we were having a little glass of something to raise a toast to the bestseller Jo Nesbo I got chatting to a colleague my favourite places to read and quite quickly a group of us were eulogising about the perfect place to get your nose stuck in a book when you aren’t at home. So, this blog idea was born.

@JonathanCape we also like to share our love for reading on Twitter and our loyal fan base are always giving us tips on why they love reading too … so this got me thinking that we should all start sharing our favourite places outside our homes (because let’s face it we all love curling up on the sofa) to read our books. We do spend a lot of time on this blog asking our authors and colleagues about writing but we don’t often talk about the fine tuned art of reading. So here we go, this is our first blog dedicated to asking our followers on Twitter where they like to read most with recommendations, links and hot tips from locations around the country. Please comment below with your favourite places to read too and let me know if you take anyone up on these. Huge thanks to all our loyal twitter followers, we LOVED these suggestions …

@DavidGillot” Enjoyed reading whilst sitting watching Sheffield Utd, especially during a tedious 2nd half, when we were already 2-0 down”
@JewishBookWeek “There is a special tree on top of Richmond Park, by the Royal ballet school, which is just perfect for leaning against & read. It's a dead tree, all on its own, to the right of the School, above the road, towards the top of the hill” http://www.royalparks.gov.uk/Richmond-Park.aspx
@gemparsons “in a hot bath lit by candlelight to relax after a long tiring day!” – I added this because EVERYONE loves to do this at home
@NickSantosPedro “Best place to read in London has to be Doctor Watts's Mount in Abney Park Cemetery. Pending sun” http://bit.ly/gHb3pH
@EmmaGrange “I read lots on the London-Brighton train journey, safe from other commuters behind my book! Also on Castle Hill, Tenby- gorge” http://www.francisfrith.com/tenby/photos/castle-hill-from-st-catherines-1890_28052/#utmcsr=google.co.uk&utmcmd=referral&utmccn=google.co.uk
@Jhbhq “For me, at Pimm's O'Clock, a sandwich, the sun out whilst reading on Primrose Hill...I normally fall asleep though ;)” - http://www.primrosehill.com/
And finally for @JonathanCape … well I speak only for myself, but my favourite place in London is Chelsea Physic Garden on a sunny summer afternoon http://www.chelseaphysicgarden.co.uk/ or if I’m feeling really flush Petersham Nurseries tea room (not restaurant lovely as it is) for orange polenta cake (Anna Del Conte does a really good one too) in amongst the pretty plants and in the conservatory - http://www.petershamnurseries.co.uk/cafeandteahouse.asp I agree with @EmmagRange too, train journeys are always brilliant for getting your nose stuck in a book. I always read lots of books in the quiet coach on National Express East Coast on my way to Edinburgh from London on the train (though I do find myself staring out of the window too)

Ah for more sunny days in warm parks, frothy coffees in dinky cafes with blossom outside, quiet train journeys and naturally, hundreds of books to while away time … Let us know below where your favourite place to read is. The prize for the most innovative, creative answer, a copy of British Baking, the new Peyton&Byrne Cookbook will make its way to the winner. Entries by Friday 3rd June please!
