McEwan's Enduring Love is a compelling, suspense filled read with characters capable of infuriating, surprising and terrifying you.

The narrative is quick to take off; when in a park there is an explosive race towards the rising hot-air balloon which begins to carry a ten year old boy towards the sky. In an attempt to aid the child one man, John Logan, dies, and another becomes hopelessly obsessed with Joe Rose, a middle-aged man who was celebrating a picnic with his partner before the incident.

What transforms from an exchange of words and looks between Joe and Jed, a sufferer of de Clerambult's syndrome, is Jed's continous stalking of Joe, which soon becomes violent and life-threatening, proving to be a constant strain on the relationship of Joe and his partner Clarissa.
