This extraordinary, magical novel is the story of Clare and Henry who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six, and were married when Clare was twenty-two and Henry thirty. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into his past or future. His disappearances are spontaneous and his experiences are alternately harrowing and amusing. The Time Traveler's Wife depicts the effects of time travel on Henry and Clare's passionate love for each other with grace and humour. Their struggle to lead normal lives in the face of a force they can neither prevent nor control is intensely moving and entirely unforgettable.
At its core The Time Traveler's Wife is an old-fashioned love story. A terrific book - startlingly original construction
'The Time Traveler's Wife is one of those books where you read the first paragraph and you're hooked -unmissable'
I was ridiculously entranced by Audrey Niffenegger's big, reckless novel...utterly convincing
'Henry's journeys back and forth are by turns slapstick noir and unbearably poignant, and Clare's child and teen narrations disturbingly pitch-perfect. Philosophical speculation occurs in the most unlikely devices and morality, despite the temptations of plot, remains intact. This is alarmingly close to perfection, and balm to the jaded'

'The central story is so strong and touching - a universal story - ingenious - a rare book'
Niffenegger exploits the possibilities of her fantasy scenario with immense skill: no wonder this novel has spent weeks on the bestseller lists in the US. This is one of those books that makes you want to eat it up from start to finish
'Wonky, sexy, incredible'
Wonky, sexy, incredible
Pick up Niffenegger's book and you'll experience a visceral thrill that only a few novels provide. An elegy to love and loss

I can't actually explain enough in words how much I LOVE THIS BOOK! If you're not one of the millions of people who've either had this book pressed into their hands by a friend going 'YOU MUST READ THIS' then you're one of those doing the pressing. It's fantastic. It's the most imaginative love story written, it's clever, it's sexy, it's so so poignant - who would've thought a novel about a time travelling boyfriend would've done this well? Clare & Henry's relationship is so believable, their love isn't cliche or ridiculous, it's the kind of love you read about and sob about no matter whether you're on a beach or on the tube. If, by some miracle, you haven't read this book yet - do now.
Brilliant! I eagerly await the next Niffenegger
If there was ever a love story worth reading, this is it. Not only do you have the enchanting way the two lovers meet, you have to figure out the timeline of the story. While reading you almost feel the excitment that Clare feels as she waits for Henry to appear. Henry is Clare's young girl's crush and how many people actually get to marry the man they had a crush on when they are barely a teenager. Clare and Henry fall in love with each other when they are both at various stages of their life. What I think makes this book magical, is not the big main events of the story, but the small meetings that the two lovers have. They seem almost meaningless, but as lovers know it can be these meetings that make the relationship worthwhile.A book that can read over and over agin.
