Greene's twice adapted novel has been made into a film as recently as 2011, attaining further support for its compelling story of the sociopathic gang-leader Pinkie from readers and film lovers alike.

The malicious and temperamental Pinkie, youngest of his Brighton gang, must ensure that his involvement in the murder of Charles Hale is never questioned. On their journey to ensuring the truth remains concealed the gang commits further crime, and Pinkie, repulsed by the idea of sex, must keep what the waitress Rose knows quiet by taking her as his partner. Meanwhile the brave and relentless Ida is hungry for justice and the truth concerning Charles Hale’s death. Amidst a city where gang crime is thriving, Ida will either bring retribution to the murderers or become a victim herself.
