This is arguably the most profound and well-known Russian novel ever written. Crime and Punishment is the story of Raskolnikov and his thoughts, chaotic and murderous. Raskolnikov is an ex-student surviving poverty in Saint Petersburg, where the streets are hot and suffocating, polluted with noise and crowds.

The mental anguish Raskolnikov suffers brings him to the idea that he will murder a pawnbroker and steal her wealth. From here the novel propels forward via the troubled, guilt ridden mind of the man, where his own justifications for his act of violence conflict with what morals he has left. Regarded as a classic and more often than not a fixture in the best Literature lists, Crime and Punishment has been, and must always be, a book to be read and admired.
