I have underlined, written in the margins, put my hand to my mouth in disbelief over and over again while reading this book. I have stopped at every page and read bits out loud to my partner (something I almost never do as I think it's rude!). Every time I switch on the news or have a conversation I think of how this book relates to it. It is uncanny how relevant it is not just to me, here and now in 2011but in the wider world. Sarah Bakewell has done an amazing job of bringing Montaigne and his essays to life for me in a way that I couldn't do myself. It's not just a book on 'How to Live' now, it's definitely a book for Life.
